About MXmap UK

What is this?

MXmap UK is an interactive map showing which email providers are used by UK government domains (.gov.uk). It uses public DNS records and network signals to classify email hosting providers.

Methodology

Each .gov.uk domain is checked via 11 signals from DNS records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC), SMTP banners, ASN lookups, and a public Microsoft API endpoint, then classified by provider type with confidence scoring.

DNS records indicate mail routing and authorised senders, not necessarily where data is stored.

Data Source

The list of .gov.uk domains comes from the official UK government domain register.
